Most people see technology as apart from us or as a tool that could eventually be evil or turn against us . But I do think that technology is an extension of the human mind. We are able to communicate almost instantly like telepathy with an extension of an iphone. It all the depends how we use it like FIRE
Got inspire after my last visit at the San Francisco De Young Museum’s “cult of the machine ” exhibit
“May our philosophies keep pace with our technologies. May our compassion keep pace with our powers. And may love, not fear, be the engine of change.” Excerpt from Origin
Ok so it was just Easter, aswell as I finished reading ORIGIN by Dan Brown and after reading the book I watch Ready player One . So it really got me thinking about religion , faith , science and our future .
Where do we come from? Where are we going? What is all this technology doing to us?
Why in an age where technology has grown exponentially and everyone can literally contact another human being at the other side of the world in seconds.. people still flock churches and celebrate Easter, Passover , Ramadan….
What I loved about Dan Brown´s book was the positive outlook of what the future holds, like us humans being able to use machines to enhance us . That regardless the growing discoveries in science there is still a governing entity or God that created the laws of Physics. Science and religion can be together one does not have to negate the other.
Here is an excerpt of the book , Edmond was the futurist-scientist that made a supercomputer and disicovered how was it that life came to be by replicating an experiment and had a future vision of the world
“Edmond persuasively described a future where technology had become so inexpensive and ubiquitous that it erased the gap between the haves and the have-nots. A future where environmental technologies provided billions of people with drinking water, nutritious food, and access to clean energy. A future where diseases like Edmond’s cancer were eradicated, thanks to genomic medicine. A future where the awesome power of the Internet was finally harnessed for education, even in the most remote corners of the world. A future where assembly-line robotics would free workers from mind-numbing jobs so they could pursue more rewarding fields that would open up in areas not yet imagined. And, above all, a future in which breakthrough technologies began creating such an abundance of humankind’s critical resources that warring over them would no longer be necessary.”
With this in mind , there was another character of a well educated priest Father Beña that regarded science and nature as friends of religion . A church of the future was one deeply connected to nature . That instead of seeing science as a threat but rather an ally, AI without the moral framework would not work, a world without love would be devoid of music , art, creativity it would be only automatons.
That there is only one way Christianity will survied the coming age of science. We must stop rejecting the discoveries of science. We must stop denouncing provable facts. We must become a spiritual partner of science . Using our vast experience, millenia of philosophy, personal inquiry, meditation , soul- searching – to help humanity build a moral framework and ensure that the coming technologies will unify, illuminate , and raise us up rather than destroy us
In this day an age were technology has reached beyond the dreams of what could be done 100 years ago, there is still religious zealots, talibans, people denying advancement. As well as scientist with lack of faith , lack of belief in something higher than ourselves.
Yes the Darwinian theory is true, yes we live in an expanding Universe, yes there is laws of physics but what still at least for me gives me the certainty that there is God is who created the laws of physicis, the order, the patterns in nature. There is an animated spirit that makes me love, makes me dream makes me create…
I just know that when I talk to God he listens and lets stop fighting about what is right or wrong but rather find common threads.
For me religions are like food. A neccesity of hummanity but in different parts of the world food appeared in different forms satisfying the same needs. Such as carbs in Europe- Bread, Asia- Rice Latin America – Corn , and it does not mean that one is better than the other but its just different expressions of the same thing a Carb….
Such is religion , early human beings explained and created them by forming stories and beings relatable to the nature around them… Most of them agree that we have to be good to one another, family values etc etc .
