Abstraction made into introspection … Rothko

Emitting a brilliance as if illuminated from within, Rothko´s painting often arouse a deeply emotional responso from viewers. His aim was to create intimate and enveloping environments in which the color, texture, and scale of his compositions would draw the viewer closer. Here the large red orange passage with its velvety, luminous surface helps achive this effect by seeming to project forwar into the viewer´s space, while the dense, dark indigo band below pulls back into itseld. A warm eggpland color at the paintings perimeter gently frames our gaze and encourages us to attend to the act of looking

Ok so this is the explanation at the Sfmoma , and yes I have to say that this painting completely made me look , stop and go within. Which is what is said in all meditation and mindfulness practices, stop look within. He achieved it and that is what art is.

Something that makes us feel what the artist wanted to convey or even a vehicle to an inward experience within oneself…..

Just by entering the room where the painting was made me be present and that is the secret of having a meaningful life… being present in every thing we do.

How do you measure a life?

It all changes nothing ever stays , we do not know the future but we know we are going to die that is a fact …

So how would you measure your life?

I find this song from the Broadway musical rent beyond beautiful and the best way I think it is the best way to measure yourself how did you lived your life and at the end all that matters is how much did you love

Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes
Five hundred twenty-five thousand moments so dear
Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes
How do you measure, measure a year?
In daylights, in sunsets
In midnights, in cups of coffee
In inches, in miles
In laughter, in strife
In five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes
How do you measure a year in the life
How about love?
How about love?
How about love?
Measure in love
Seasons of love
Seasons of love
Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes
Five hundred twenty-five thousand
Journeys to plan
Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes
How do you measure the life
Of a woman or a man?
In truths that she learned
Or in times that he cried
In bridges he burned
Or the way that she died
It’s time now to sing out
Tho’ the story never ends
Let’s celebrate
Remember a year in the life of friends
Remember the love
Remember the love
Remember the love
Measure in love
Measure, measure your life in love
Seasons of love

The eternal quest for happines

Ok, first post.

What comes to my mind is the quest for happiness and what  are we searching for , what are we working towards. Today I saw an interview  of  Santos  a Yale teacher who gives the most popular class in the history of Yale and it is  about  happiness.

Which it came down to life´s simple pleasures as cliche as it may sound… but yes . After we have acquired food, shelter etc much more money will not give us any more happiness but what will are things like gratitude, excercise, sleep, meditation , being with friends etc .

So what are we waiting for … Sleep well, meditate for at least 10 minutes , be grateful that we have roof, water , food etc and go walk in nature!

Here I will  post a link to my favorite video that will instantly put a smile on your face and help see life in different ways. Even if you have seen it , watch it again! It always has an effect on me
